Exercise After Menopause And Step-up Your Quality Of Life
When kids are playing they have a lot of fun. Their fun increases when they move their bodies even more. As we get older the fun seems to be linked less and less with exercise. Some of my clients over 40 have trouble getting themselves into the gym or doing any sort of exercise, making it hard to lose weight permanently over 40.
However, things could be different. If you're exercising regularly, you'll feel better. People tend to feel more energy, feel more capable and productive and are emotionally more stable.
New research released in the Archives of Internal Medicine looked into the effects of exercise on the quality of life of menopausal women. All women were overweight or obese and had a sedentary lifestyle. They received 3 different exercise plans, with different level of intensity. As always in these studies, a control group had no exercise at all.
The results are interesting: Even if the women did not lose any weight (that means, they compensated the exercise by consuming more), their quality of life enhanced. More exercise lead to better well-being, higher intensity of the exercise program leads to higher quality of life.
And: Even the exercise program with the lowest intensity had a beneficial consequence on the sense of well-being. Naturally, to lose weight permanently over 40 you have to incorporate physical activities in your life style. But you shouldn’t do it for some logical, left-brain understanding alone. You will feel better and love your life even more- particularly if you are over 40.
