i want to open a non-profit youth gym how can i get started. i know i can get grants for it. ages 6-20?
we have so many obese youth and i read a story about how obese kids have more problems and don't live as long. so i thought if hey gyms would be great for kids. gym memberships cost hella lot and i think a youth gym would be great in order to teach them to eat properly and exercise right. It would kind of be like the boys and girls club but gym to help fight obesity in the youth in Montgomery, Alabama would be the city and state. i kind of have a plan made out, but still need help
It's harder to become and maintain a nonprofit org than a for-profit business and you need a plan. You need board members as passionate as you are to be legally responsible for running the org and funding it and maintain accountability to the public trust. Writing grant proposals is not that easy and no way to sustain an org. Go to your state's Attorney General website to download forms to become a charitable org and then to the feds website to download a form 1023 so that when people donate, they get a tax write-off. Then take a look at all the info you have come up with, along with nearly $800 and make an thoughtful decision to live with... then find yourself a devoted Board of Directors to help you plan, plan and plan all day and all night.
